Meet Jill Skrabalak

As a registered nurse and clinical quality specialist who has worked in primary care for many years, Jill Skrabalak is well-acquainted with the traditional tools of her trade. At the same time, she deeply understands that healing can come from many sources. Jill is in the process of completing a master's degree in clinical herbalism as a means of adding the power of plants to her toolbox. As the wife of Portland Art Gallery artist Cooper Dragonette, it may come as no surprise that Jill also believes in the curative nature of creative pursuits. Following her mother's death in March 2022, Jill moved her mother's baby grand piano from upstate New York to Maine, sustaining their lifelong connection through their shared love of music. Bud Stiker is an internationally recognized radio professional and creative consultant who now uses his communication background to benefit medical learners and patients. Originally from upstate New York, Bud gained extensive experience in radio across the U.S. before eventually moving to Maine. Bud’s winding professional path from disc jockey to general manager and international consultant enabled him to build resilience and adaptability, while developing a deep understanding of people. He has most recently used these skills while playing the role of “standardized patient” for the Tufts University School of Medicine Maine Track Program and Maine Medical Center in Portland. Susan Johnson is a seasoned educator who has returned to her artistic roots to focus her attention on the natural world. Originally from the New York area, Susan fell in love with Maine during summers at Camp Arcadia and later through her husband’s ties to the Midcoast region. Once a documentary filmmaker, Susan’s career has also encompassed teaching high school biology and running educational outreach programs at Harvard University. Recently she completed a stint as an artist-in-residence at Maine’s South Bristol School, connecting eighth graders with the Alewife migration.
